Makes sense, but does Jake Geuntzel really count as a prospect? He's a lock for the starting line up 1st line. Although if it's players under 23, all is fair. |

I wish I knew anything about these guys outside of Sprong and Jarry.
Is Hallander the guy they drafted this year? |

IMO a prospect is player with less than a full season under his belt and/or not yet a full time player. |

What I fear is that JR will trade most of them along with 1st round picks at the deadline. |

He doesn't include Guentzal as a prospect, he talks in depth about all prospects in the system and then at the end of the article he lists the top players under 23, so that's why he is on the list |

I see it that way too. I assume Edmonton gets McDavid in their "prospect" list too then. Toronto is probably stacked with Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. |

I don't know anything about prospects but he was kinda compared to Hornqvist right? |

From everything I read I'm very impressed with him and wonder why he was still there for the Pens to move up and grab. |

No he sounds like a Matt Cullen type with his 2-way game. I think he will top out as a bottom 6 type guy with speed. Elite prospects says: Two-way forward with a strong skating ability. Works hard and forechecks and backchecks impressively. Shoots and passes the puck equally well. Smart in all three zones and a good team player. |

Must be why Kotkaniemi and Boqvist fell so far, too. |

Fair point, but Kotkaniemi was drafted by Montreal. Anything Bergevin does can't be used as evidence, unless as evidence of how an incompetent gm can ruin a franchise. |

I have no problem trading away every single one of them to get Sid Geno and Tanger another cup. |

Exactly - or at least some non-important, as we're in win-now mode... we can collect prospects in 5 years, and in 10 make the top of those lists!
But actually GMJR is doing a pretty good job at this... everyone remember when Sundqvist was the next 4th-line-center for sure? |

Yeah the penguins don't need any big name prospects. If JR can pick up some sleepers picks, we just need a few to be good. If we can hit on 1 or 2 more jake guentzel type of players, we can prolong the championship roster till Sid and Geno are gone. We suck for a year or 2, get a center and a defense man preferably and we're right back in the game. Of course if we somehow find a pavel datsyuk like the redwings did in round 6 or 7, maybe we go on our own 25 year playoff streak? haha all speculation. This is such a best case scenario. |

Well what is the relation to having the best prospect pool & winning Stanley? Is there any relative proof from having good prospects & winning the Cup?
The last real big deal I remember about prospects was the final year Babcock was at Detroit. That hasn't produced anything that resembles success. Are the Flyers taking that crown with their young guns coming through now? Let's see if that turns into a Cup. Or, just keep on keeping On JR, I really don't mind having lower numbers of prospects but winning. |
